Information Technology at RVTC opens many doors for possible career paths or areas for further study.  The recommended path in IT would be Tech Essentials to be followed by Hands On Computer Systems. However, either program can be take as a single year offering.  If you love working on or with computers, this is the program for you!   Tech Essentials will take you beyond the basics in several areas of IT detailed below.  Hands On is for the student who has identified an interest in computer sytems and wants to know about the inner workings of computers
Prior knowledge of computer systems not necessary!  

Program Highlights:
• Prepares you for a broad range of career opportunities in Information Technology.
• Great boost for senior year offerings in the Information Technology Career Cluster.
• Get hands-on experience for troubleshooting computers.
• Gain skills in creating interactive web pages.

YEAR ONE: Technology Essentials
Credit: 3-4 elective credits
Eligibility: Students in grades 11 and 12; grade 10, with permission
Prerequisites: Keyboarding skills
Schedule: Full year; 2 hours per day

Working with the Media Arts & Technology Programs, students will be able to choose between 5 program offerings for the first three quarters of the school year.  One quarter will be spent learning web site development.  Get the basics of HTML and then on to Dreamweaver, the industry standard site editor.  You can choose between audio engineering, Flash animation, motion graphics or video production. The last quarter will be spent learning to program with an easy to learn object oriented program called Alice.  This one year program can be taken as a stand alone or prepare you for second level in Information Technology or Audio/ Video production.  Program completers or those who successfully complete Tech Essentials and Hands On can earn embedded Math credit and elective credits.


YEAR TWO: Hands On Computer Systems
Credit: 3-4 elective credits
Eligibility: Students in grades 11 and 12; grade 10, with permission
Prerequisites: Keyboarding skills
Schedule: Full year; 2 hours per day

Build you skill and confidence as you learn to build, repair, upgrade and maintain computer systems. Students divide their time between the classroom and the lab as they learn. Optional value added features are the ability to earn college credit with the successful completion of Hands On. You may also want to take the nationionally recognized CompTIA A+ exam.
